Like many things, the whole (program) is dependent upon its parts (coaches and players). We always want to focus on reaping the rewards of keeping players accountable. Keeping the best lineup going or the best team on the field is the bottom line giving teams, players and coaches the best opportunity to win.

Let’s closely examine Quality Control and it’s benefits.

Quality Control is the process of ensuring players consistently produce and make decisions in a manner that is best for the team and the over-all program. Each player is expected to meet specific requirements, be dependable and perform in a satisfactory manner. The philosophical boundaries of coaches is what sets the bar. Bars are set differently for different programs. The important thing is that a bar is set.

Expectations.

Gathering data can be the difference between winning and losing. But gathering data just to gather data can be detrimental as well. Captured data must be usable data. Does it make you better? Does it help your players compete? This is important because poor data can lead to poor decision-making. Making sure goals are realistically attainable is an important part of the process and player effort is huge. Nobody wants the DB who is too cool to take a good pursuit angle or the CF who is too cool to use good fundamentals when catching fly balls.

So,  what is cool about Quality Control? Here are 10 great reasons to take the time to keep your players accountable:

You’ll get a player's best if you demand their best.

Some players struggle to move runners in  situations. Some players can’t hit freethrows when they’re tired. Of course you continue to work. That’s part of striving for excellence. But having the data to make smart decisions for lineups or who is on the court/field is key.

 
3. Identifies Strengths

Who hits the 3’s? Who gets the key blocks? Who on your bench can drive in runs when you need them to?

 
4. Establishes Leadership

Your philosophical boundaries become your player’s boundaries. Some players will pave the way for others and be demanding of themselves and others. They will lead.

Few things bring different backgrounds together more than that of a team with a vision.

The Plan. The Boundaries. Together providing a path to success.
